ENTREPRENEUR, STYLE ICON, OLYMPIAN
CELEBRATING MOVEMENT: Our journey gives us the opportunity to meet many inspirational figures across fitness, fashion, and culture that embody #caraalife. We caught five-time Olympic medal gymnast and style icon Nastia Liukin fresh from her bout as NBC gymnastics commentator at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio to get the inside scoop on her victorious life.
Nastia is an inspiration. She effortlessly balances her career, health, and social life. How does she stay motivated to do it all? Her motto:
Up by 5 am without fail, Nastia whips up an almond milk latte or eggs with avocado on gluten-free toast in her Boston home with her fiancé before getting in an early morning workout. She then travels with The Liukin in tow throughout her day, which consists of anything from a business meeting to on-air broadcasting at NBC. By night she enjoys relaxing with her family, dreaming up her next passion project in her journal, and learning how to cook.
EXERCISE & FITNESS
Nastia knew she was destined to be an athlete since she was 3 years old. The daughter of champion gymnasts, she displayed an early aptitude for the sport and by age 18 she was on top of the world, becoming the Olympic All-Around Champion at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since retiring, she has perfected a healthy lifestyle outside of the uneven bars and balance beam.
Typical pre-workout snacks include Lara Bars, green juices, almonds, or an apple with almond butter. Nastia balances a healthy body with a clear mind, finding time each day to either meditate or journal--even if it is just on her phone while on the go. Her biggest tip for staying healthy even when super busy? Making sure to drink lots of water and get enough sleep!
