NICOLE MELINE - ATHLETE, WOMAN, INSPIRATION
Edition 1 -- April of 2016
Our journey gives us the opportunity to meet many inspirational figures across fitness, fashion, and culture. This spring, we sat down with our ambassador Nicole Meline, master instructor at Peloton Cycle, after another exhilarating class with her in New York City to learn about her “ride”.
Nicole is a superstar. Her attitude, style, spunk, and athleticism make her a natural leader. She’s a teacher, but hungry to learn. Her motto?
Feast. Sweat. Pray. Hustle
By morning you can (try to) catch her on a run on the East River bridges or leading a Peloton Cycle sweat party. Must be followed by some serious brunch. By evening, she’s added in art exploration, sprinkled her personal soundtrack with beats that wake her up and demand her boldest, fiercest self, and stirred in creative food, friends, and lively stories. Dreams and plans of visiting faraway places provide an end cap to a pretty perfect day.
EXERCISE & FITNESS
“We are made to thrive. I train, and I feast, to inhabit myself fully. To experience my full strength. To build ferocity that spills into generosity. We are a fusion of body and spirit; when we move until our bodies are fully alive - hearts racing, breath essential - we can shake ourselves out of stale rhythms and imagine fresh possibilities. I train extremely to live exhilaratingly.”
Though a successful fitness instructor now, her passion for fitness started in the pool. “I started swimming competitively as a kid in Southern California. I had little raw talent but lots of grit, so distance freestyle became my event. I started late, but I trained alongside Olympians and learned about athletic bravery. And about the Ironman triathlon."
"After putting on weight in college, I started running, and then cycling, and dreaming about racing triathlon. As I got stronger I started to imagine my whole life differently, boldly. I've made my most powerful decisions drenched in killer beats and sweat. I trained to become an indoor cycling and yoga instructor because I love enticing athletes to that edge.”
“The core of my practice is cycling, running, and yoga. At least one of these workouts, 6 days a week. I mix core work as part of my yoga, even if a 5 min combo is all I can get in.”
“I believe in indulgence. And I believe in listening to your body, despite whatever training regimen you might be on. Sometimes you want a rest day because you need a rest day, or you want a dark chocolate dessert because it's a flavor masterpiece and you should not miss out on it!”
“I don't believe in basics! I love activewear a workout has to live up to.” When you see Nicole’s wardrobe and her mix of shiny, mesh, bold, playful and edgy materials, styles, and colors, she truly has a look all her own in a world of basic black leggings.
When we asked her what was in her Caraa fitness Studio bag today … “Sidi metallic cycling shoes, a bag of sweaty clothes (always!), a water bottle, iPad, Mac Candy-Yum-Yum lipstick, extra leggings (you just never know), stiletto pumps, mint gum, dark chocolate.”
“Brands like Caraa are not only creating handbags that are chic, urban, smart and functional, they are creating a community of strong, driven, collaborative women as part of the journey.”
